Originally, the initiative focused on providing German language lessons for the club\u2019s international professional ice hockey players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">It quickly became clear, however, that this was about much more than language.<br>\nAnd much more than sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">It was about orientation.<br>\nAbout finding one's place.<br>\nAbout belonging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Together, we developed a language and integration program for international players who suddenly had to navigate a new country, a different culture, and a completely unfamiliar environment. Looking back, this project was far more than a traditional language course. It was a practical approach to issues that are more relevant today than ever before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Successful Integration Is More Than an Onboarding Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When people enter a new environment\u2014whether in sports or in business\u2014they often face similar challenges:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Uncertainty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Language barriers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cultural differences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lack of orientation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social isolation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fear of making mistakes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many organizations focus primarily on processes, systems, and administrative procedures during onboarding. Of course, these elements are important. But true integration does not happen through checklists alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People need, above all:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trust<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Psychological safety<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>clear communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>genuine points of contact<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spaces for Connection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a culture where questions are encouraged<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This became especially evident in the DEG project. Language was often just the door opener. What truly mattered was the feeling of being welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning Without Fear of Making Mistakes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One particularly important aspect was learning without constant evaluation. Many international players were initially hesitant to speak\u2014out of fear of making mistakes or not being understood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Yet this is exactly where growth begins:<br>\nIn environments where uncertainty can be openly acknowledged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is more relevant today than ever before\u2014not only in sports, but also:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>in organizational development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in leadership and teamwork<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in transformation processes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in professional development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and increasingly in the way they engage with artificial intelligence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because modern transformation processes do not succeed through new technologies or systems alone. They succeed through people who are given orientation and are able to build trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Organizations Can Learn from This<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is why effective onboarding processes are never purely organizational processes. They are always cultural processes as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The crucial question is not:<br>\n\u201cWhat information do new employees need to receive?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">But rather:<br>\n\u201cHow do we create genuine human connection?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Organizations that take integration seriously create:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open spaces for communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safe learning environments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cultural orientation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Active integration into teams<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and an environment in which people feel safe to be themselves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Because a sense of belonging does not happen automatically.<br>\nIt is created through intentional connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why This Topic Matters More Than Ever Today<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2017, I was unfortunately no longer able to continue supporting the project due to geographical changes. This makes me all the more pleased that Dr. Heinz-Rudi Spiegel continues to carry the idea forward to this day and remains passionately committed to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">For me personally, however, this topic has never left me.<br>\nTo this day, it remains one of the causes closest to my heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Especially in a time of skilled labor shortages, international collaboration, hybrid teams, and AI-driven transformation, one thing becomes clear:<br>\nTechnology alone does not solve integration challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People still need orientation, trust, and genuine communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Successful integration never begins with processes alone.<br>\nIt always begins with the question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How do we create genuine human connection?<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2012 entstand bei der D\u00fcsseldorfer EG durch Heinz-Rudi Spiegel ein besonderes Projekt, zu dem ich kurz nach dem Start dazukam.
