We measure the cost of turnover. We measure time to productivity. We measure onboarding completion rates.
But we never measure this: When did someone first truly feel a sense of belonging?
And yet, that is precisely the decisive variable.
Gallup shows it year after year: Only 11% of employees in Germany are truly emotionally engaged. Not because the processes are poor. But because we are focusing on the wrong thing.
Onboarding is not a knowledge transfer problem. It is a relationship problem.
For this, I developed the Menschentakt model — grounded in nine theories, from Luhmann and Edmondson to Rosa.
The core question behind it is simple:
Does this person feel seen? Heard? Safe? Effective? Like they belong?
If the answer is “yes” five times — integration succeeds.
If not — even the best onboarding plan will not be enough.
The concept? A mindset. Not a method.
If this resonates with you, I’d be happy to exchange thoughts — especially with people who shape onboarding every day. What makes the difference for you?
